What is
Mold and What Can It Do?
Molds are simple, microscopic
organisms, found virtually everywhere, both indoors and outdoors.
Molds can be found on plants, foods, dry leaves and other organic material
including building materials such as wood, sheet rock and furniture.
Molds are needed
for breaking down dead material. Mold spores are very tiny and lightweight
allowing them to travel through the air for long distances. This
includes air conditioning systems in homes and office buildings.
Mold growth can often be seen in the form of discoloration, ranging from
white to orange and from green to brown and black.
Depending on the type of
mold and quantity present, they may cause allergic reactions, asthma episodes,
infections and other respiratory problems. Some molds can cause strong
reactions in some persons while the other forms of molds present in small
amounts are normal in our environment and have little effect on human health.
